This is a rural strip of Louisiana that is dominated by crawfish ponds, small towns, and rice fields. You'll be able to visit towns like Mamou, and experience some of the latest in Cajun music, while also doing some much needed dancing. Be sure to stop by and see the Cajun Music Hall of Fame, and the Louisiana Orphan Train Museum.Â

This byway offers a front row seat to one of the largest bird migration routes in North America. You'll also be directed right towards Lake Charles, which boasts beautiful beaches and some of the best sunsets.
Toledo Bend Forest Scenic Byway
One of the lesser-known routes in Louisiana to take is the Toledo Bend Forest Scenic Byway. It will introduce you to forested landscapes that have history based around the French, Spanish, and Native Americans. You'll also be driving around Toledo Bend Lake, which is the largest manmade lake in all of the south. Be sure to stop by Zwolle, and the El Camino Real National Historic Trail.
