Best Road Trips from Monroe LA
Nestled on the banks of the Ouachita River and Bayou DeSiard, Monroe and West Monroe have everything you need for an unforgettable north Louisiana vacation. This is why the team at Interstate Hyundai thought we would put together a list of our favorite trips. Here are some of the possible destinations within a 100-mile from Monroe.
The Biedenharn Museum & Gardens
The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens are multiple museums in one, with different and fascinating stories to tell. Its original owner, Joseph Biedenharn, was the first to bottle Coca-Cola. At his namesake museum, you'll find a Coke Museum next door to his opulent house, formal English gardens, and a museum that houses historical Bibles.
Kiroli Park
Kiroli Park is a lush 160-acre forested area and large play areas for kids. Within the park, you can enjoy several playgrounds, a unique conservatory, a dog park, tennis courts, numerous gardens, picnic areas, fishing ponds, and hiking trails. Most of the park is wooded and accessible through paved streets and paths with surprises like a suspension bridge, covered bridge, observation tower, and elevated walkways.
Duck Commander
Smash hit the reality TV show "Duck Dynasty," which ran through 2017, following the daily lives of the Robertson family and their business, Duck Commander. The Robertsons are without question West Monroe's most famous family, and on Duck Commander: The Tour, you'll learn about the show and the Robertsons' rise to stardom.
The Global Wildlife Center
Get up close and personal with 3,000 animals on over 900 acres of land. The Global Wildlife center was established in 1991 and has been the destination for many a field trip for kids in nearby schools, but it also makes for a great family adventure. It's the largest completely free-roaming wildlife preserve of its kind in the United States. In addition, the wildlife center is home to more than 1,000 exotic animals.
Chennault Aviation and Military Museum
The Chennault Aviation and Military Museum honors the story of General Claire Chennault and an elite squadron of pilots he led, known as the Flying Tigers. You will learn compelling stories of World War II battles won and lost and how one man helped change the war in China. The bilingual "Way of a Fighter" exhibit is based on General Chennault's memoirs, written in 1949. The museum also tells the story of how a small crop-dusting business evolved into the second largest airline in the world, Delta Airlines.
