Hyundai announces the all-new 2022 IONIQ 5, an electric crossover utility vehicle projected to deliver a driving range of 300 miles. The design team drew inspiration from Hyundai's '45' EV concept, relevant technology, and best-in-class ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. The IONIQ 5 rides on Hyundai's exclusionary Electric-Global Modular Platform, providing more interior space and optimized performance. The IONIQ 5 is part of Hyundai's plan to introduce 23 BEV models and sell 1 million BEV units worldwide by 2025.
How many motors are available on the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5?
IONIQ 5 offers a range of drive motors to fit everyone's needs. Buyers can pair the 77.4 kWh battery pack with the two electric motor layouts. Customers can choose either a rear motor only or a front and rear motor. The paramount dual-motor setup is an all-wheel-drive option and produces a combined power of 320 horsepower and 446 ft.-lbs. of torque. When this configuration powers the 2022 IONIQ 5, it will jump from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds. The single rear motor layout offers 225 horsepower and is two-wheel drive. The single motor configuration IONIQ 5 is targeted to achieve a maximum driving range of 300 miles. In comparison, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout will deliver 269 miles on a single charge. All configurations will offer a top speed of 115 MPH and a towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds.

IONIQ 5's Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform, also known as E-GMP, will support 400 volts and 800 volt charging infrastructures. The IONIQ 5 comes with the 800-V charging capability standard but will accommodate a 400-V charging with no need for additional adapters. Hyundai's multi-charging system is the world's first technology that operates the motor and inverter to boost 400 volts to 800 volts to deliver stable charging compatibility. With a 350-kW charger, IONIQ 5 will charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes. In addition, the IONIQ 5 can charge up to 68 miles in just five minutes when you use a 350-kW fast charger.Â
What size is the IONIQ 5 going to be?
The IONIQ 5's crossover body type achieves unique proportions and short overhangs due to its elongated wheelbase. Its interior takes full advantage of E-GMP's all-electric packaging. The steer-by-wire and shift-by-wire systems offer a flat floor for maximum passenger and cargo space. The E-GMP also maximizes interior space through its long wheelbase and short front and rear overhangs. As a result, the IONIQ 5 has more passenger volume than its top competitors, 106.5 cubic feet of room, to be exact. The second-row seats can slide forward up to 5.3 inches, recline, and fold in a 60:40 ratio for added versatility. The shift-by-wire gear allows the driver to rotate it forward for drive and backward for reverse. Park is just a button click. The second-row seats recline and slide to provide more legroom than a midsize SUV and additional headroom. The sliding second-row seats also can provide additional luggage space when needed.

The IONIQ 5 offers advanced technologies for an enhanced digital user experience. The IONIQ 5's dual-cockpit features a 12-inch, full-touch infotainment screen and hoodless 12- inch digital gauge cluster that can be customized to meet customers' needs. IONIQ 5 features the first Head-Up Display with Augmented Reality mode. Augmented Reality mode, also known as AR, turns your windshield into a display screen. Drivers can choose to use AR technology to project relevant information, such as turn-by-turn navigation.
