In 2021, the Sonata took things a step further in performance thanks to the N Line version, which comes with a 290 horsepower, which set the bar for the midsize sport sedan. With the 2022 version of the Hyundai Sonata, the changes keep coming as the Tech package, which was available for the SEL Plus trim, is now standard. What powers the Hyundai Sonata?
There are a couple of engine options available for the Sonata, and which one you get will depend on the trim level. On the SE and SEL trim, you get a solid 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out up to 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque which pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. When you get to the SEL Plus trim, you get a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with an incredible 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque which also gets the eight-speed automatic transmission. Finally, there is the powerful engine for the N Line trim, which is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that pounds the pavement with 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque which gets an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
What features are available for the Sonata?
There are five trim levels available for the Sonata, and there are some outstanding features available for each. The base trim is the SE which comes standard with LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and an 8-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. More impressive features are available for the SEL as it adds to the SE with proximity keyless entry, push-button start, Blue Link connectivity, a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a hands-free truck opener. A Convenience package is available for the SEL trim, which adds a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument display, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. At the midway point is the SEL Plus, which has 19-inch wheels, simulated leather seating, navigation system, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. The trim with the most features is the Limited, which comes with upgraded LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, a head-up display, heated steering wheel, and leather seating surfaces. Last up, we have the advanced N Line trim, which rounds things out with unique 19-inch wheels, sport-runed steering and suspension, and N Line-specific styling details.
Is the Hyundai Sonata a safe vehicle?
The Hyundai Sonata is one of the safest vehicles on the market thanks to its numerous safety features, even at the base trim level. Every version of the Hyundai Sonata comes with Forward Collison Mitigation with Pedestrian Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning. If you move up to the SEL, you get more unique safety systems such as Safety Exit Warning and Blind-Spot Warning with Rear-Cross Traffic Alert. Finally, there is the Limited trim which comes with Rear Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot View Monitor, a Surround-View Monitor, and Hyundai's Smart Parking Assist.
